Description
In the Dubai desert, you can experience modern camel racing at the Al Marmoom camel racing track. The sport is popular with locals and has deep roots in the region. The track is located next to the Al Marmoom Heritage Village and the Al Lisaili district near the Dubai Camel Hospital.
After visiting Dubai, head to the second-largest city in Abu Dhabi. In this city, you can explore Al Jahili Fort, one of the largest forts in the UAE. Built-in the 1890s at the request of Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, also known as Zayed the First, the fort served as a residence for members of the Al Nahyan ruling family.
Next, visit the old presidential palace Qasr Al Ain, which is one of Abu Dhabi’s best-preserved buildings and an important historical site in the UAE. It was the residence of the UAE’s founding father and first president, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, until 1966. The museum, which includes the palace and private residence, offers insights into the life and culture of the ruling family. The Bedouin-style architecture dates back to 1937, and the building was converted into a museum in 1998.
Al Ain Oasis City is a must-visit destination, covering 1,200 hectares and providing a glimpse into the traditional way of life of local inhabitants who began cultivating the desert 4,000 years ago. Here, you can see a traditional falaj up close and learn about this ancient irrigation system. The oasis, home to over 147,000 date palms and fruit trees, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011.
Near Al Ain Oasis City, you can visit a local market where you can buy vegetables, fruit, dates, honey, fish, meat, and groceries. The market is designed in a traditional style and offers a glimpse of life in the 1920s.
Finally, make your way to the highest mountain in Abu Dhabi, Hafit Mountain, standing at 1,249 meters. It’s the highest peak in Abu Dhabi and the second highest in the UAE. The mountain is a popular tourist destination, featuring the Green Mubazzarrah at its foot and a system of caves along its slopes. Hafit Mountain is also home to various wildlife, including bats, snakes, and foxes.
